Gathering for Two Centuries, Fulfilling the SWJTU Dream. On May 15, 2016, Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) will celebrate its 120th anniversary.
A prestigious institution with a century and twenty years of glory. Established in 1896, SWJTU originated as the Imperial Chinese Railway Engineering College at Shanhaiguan. It is the birthplace of higher education in civil engineering, transportation engineering, and mining and metallurgical engineering in China. As one of the two earliest predecessors of the "Jiaotong Universities," it gained fame both domestically and internationally under the name "Tangshan Jiaotong University," earning the moniker "Eastern Cornell."
Ancient charm meets modern style in celebrating this birthday. Over the past 120 years, the construction and development of SWJTU have been supported and assisted by people from all walks of life and numerous alumni. The bicentenary anniversary is a grand gathering for SWJTU to unite forces and seek common development. A series of activities will be held on this occasion.
